The Royal Island Herreninsel

Welcome to the island Herrenchiemsee with the castle Herrenchiemsee, one of the most popular tourist features in Germany! Well-shaded paths lead you to many other interesting sights and lookout points round the island.

The Island Herreninsel, also known as Herrenchiemsee, offers much: The fairy tale castle Herrenchiemsee of the King Ludwig II of Bavaria, wonderful views of the lake and the nearby Alps, royal gardens, fountains and water features, shady deciduous forest, one of the oldest monasteries in Bavaria (also " Old Castle "), cross chapel from 1697 at the northern tip of the island, the King Ludwig Museum, the Chiemseemaler Gallery …

The former Benedictine monastery Augustiner-Chorherrenstift is today a museum of Bavarian history.

From mid-April to the end of October, carriage rides are offered on the Herreninsel.

A hike across the island is a pleasure in every season. On Herrenchiemsee Island there are two freely accessible nature observation stations. The island is a nature reserve with breathing views of the lake, the Alps beyond and of course of Fraueninsel

In the Royal Castle is the bat exhibition Herreninsel, which can be visited free of charge.

The famous island Herrenchiemsee in Upper Bavaria can be reached all year round by boat, mainly from Gstadt and Prien; in summer also from Chieming, Seebruck, Übersee and Bernau / Felden.
